    thedailyfeed:

One in six American adults is a binge drinker, consuming alcohol in excess about four times a month, according to a sobering CDC report. In the infographic above, you’ll find the percentage of population classified as binge drinkers.

The study — which defines binge drinking as five or more drinks in a short period of time for men and four or more for women — breaks down the nation’s 38 million binge drinkers by a variety of measures, including geography, age and income level. Wisconsin is the state with the most binge drinkers at 25 percent of the population, while Utah, home to the teetotaling Mormon church, comes in last at less than 11 percent.

  10. 2012

The year is rapidly coming to an end, and much like the rest of society, I’ve been reflecting on the past year’s events. I’ve experienced many great things, and many not-so-great things. I even have some regrets. For example, I did not visit the beach this summer. That is pretty unforgivable, now that I think about it.

Anyway, as long as the world doesn’t end next year, I do have some things in mind for 2012. Some may call these things goals… I don’t really have a start-to-finish plan or commitment to any of these. I just want to write it out, so I can look back at this and know that I at least have a general direction for the upcoming year. More importantly, I feel happy about these thoughts because they were culminated from the past year, and they are solely for me and for my own self-fulfillment.

Firstly, I want to correct the fact that I have not been to the beach at all this year. I can’t remember the last time I set a beach towel down on the sand to just lay there and relax. I am going to visit the beach more because going there used to make me feel better when I felt sad, or even happy. I can’t even remember the last time I stood over the cliff at Palisades Park to watch a sunset. Must do.

Secondly, I’ve been on ‘work mode’ since I started my most recent job. I am very happy there, but I fear that I am limiting myself on other things. It’s mostly due to the extensive work hours. I’m going to attempt approaching this year in two ways: with creativity and exploration. Creatively: I am going to start off by grabbing a sketchbook and writing or drawing anything that inspires me. I’ve realized that I learn and cope better from things that are more symbolic, rather than literal. For example, I can’t stand when someone tells me what he/she thinks the answer to my problems are, whether work or life related. Not once have my issues been solved by someone who only thought about what I said for less than two seconds. I’m quite done with that approach. Fact is, things are easier said than done. I know to follow my instinct and that when I find inspiration (people, objects, stories, places, etc.), solutions ensue. I really believe that I can find better work/life balance by practicing this. Exploration: I need to expand myself outside of the current circles that I am involved in. If I can break my life down into a venn-diagram… it’d have three circles; work, chores, and Russ/fam/friends. The latter being the smallest of the circles. My ambition lies in growing that circle by spending more time in the less usual places of 2011. I also need to add physical activity to ‘chores’, so it’s not just all about me preventing things from falling apart.

Also, I want to work on some house projects. Gotta step up my feng shui. … Here are the ones that are floating around in my head at the moment:

Want to add some greenery/ life to my home. I have some glass orbs that were gifted to me by Russ this xmas, and hopefully, that will inspire me to then bring some art to fill our walls, as well. The last picture is a pallet that was reconstructed to be a vertical garden, for places like mine, that don’t offer much room for nature.

Lastly, I’m committed to keeping my circle of friends clean and genuine. I’ve learned that ‘letting people in’ that make me feel uneasy ultimately leads in deception and/or a let-down. Always trust and follow your heart. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise. Life really is too short to deal with toxic personalities.

Alas, that is me and my pursuit of happiness (in a nutshell) for 2012.

    And now…

…. New places I want to see in 2012.

Getaways: Cabo San Lucas & Carnival in Brazil

    Happy Holidays.

    <3 Liz
